Low Voltage Staffing
Advastar has supplied low voltage crews and leadership to contractors, integrators and facility owners
Low voltage staffing for cabling, life safety and electronic security contractors
Advastar provides low voltage staffing for systems integrators, electrical contractors with a low voltage division, data center builders and facility owners. We place structured cabling installers and technicians, fire alarm technicians, access control and video surveillance specialists, AV integrators and the foremen, project managers and estimators who run the work.
Low voltage is its own labor market and it does not behave like line-voltage electrical. A journeyman electrician is not automatically a cabling technician, and a technician who terminates fiber all day is not automatically someone who can commission a fire alarm panel and sit through an AHJ acceptance test. The specializations are narrow, the certifications are vendor-specific and the people who hold the valuable combinations know exactly what they are worth. We qualify on what someone has actually installed and terminated, what test equipment they can operate and interpret and which manufacturer platforms they are certified on.
Volume also comes and goes hard in this trade. A data center fit-out or a hospital expansion can need thirty cabling techs for four months and none afterward. That makes contract and contract-to-hire the normal engagement here rather than the exception, and it makes speed of mobilization the thing clients actually judge us on. We keep a standing bench, verify certifications and background clearances in advance where sites require them and confirm travel and per diem expectations before anyone is submitted.
We work nationally across commercial construction, data centers, healthcare, education, industrial facilities and government sites. Advastar brings more than 60 years of combined staffing experience, and our skilled trades desk treats low voltage as a specialty in its own right rather than as an afterthought under electrical.

Our low voltage talent network
- 11,700 low voltage technicians and leads in network
- 3,100 BICSI or NICET credentialed
- 39 states with active low voltage placements
- 9days median time to mobilize a cabling crew
Low voltage talent categories commonly supported
Technicians installing and commissioning card access, intrusion detection and door hardware integration. Platform-specific experience on Lenel, Genetec, Software House and AMAG verified rather than assumed.
AV technicians and integrators on conference, courtroom, education and command center systems. Crestron, Extron, QSC and Biamp platforms, including programming where the role requires it.
High-density cabling crews for white space and MDF/IDF build-out, structured pathway, fiber trunk installation and the documentation standards a colocation or hyperscale operator will actually audit.
Installers, technicians and inspectors on addressable and conventional systems. Device installation, programming, acceptance testing with the AHJ and NICET-credentialed inspection and service work.
Field leadership running crews, managing material and coordinating with the electrical and general contractor. The hire that determines whether a large cabling package finishes clean or drags through punch.
Office-side leadership on systems work: takeoff and bidding, submittals, closeout documentation and the margin management that keeps a low voltage division profitable.
Copper and fiber installers pulling, terminating, testing and certifying cable plant. Cat6 and Cat6A, single and multimode fiber, fusion splicing, rack and pathway build and the certification testing that closes out the job.
Camera installation, IP video configuration, VMS setup and network integration. Increasingly a networking role as much as a cabling one, and screened accordingly.

Frequently asked questions about low voltage staffing
Structured cabling installers and technicians, fire alarm technicians and inspectors, access control and electronic security specialists, CCTV and IP video technicians, AV integrators, data center cabling crews and the foremen, superintendents, project managers and estimators above them.
Sometimes, but not automatically, and assuming so is a common hiring mistake. Line-voltage electrical experience does not confer fiber termination skill, certification testing ability or fire alarm programming experience. We screen for what someone has actually installed and tested rather than for their license class.
Both, though contract and contract-to-hire dominate because the work is project-driven. A large fit-out may need thirty technicians for four months and none afterward. We also handle payrolling when you have already identified the people.
Median is about nine days from request to first techs on site, faster where badging and clearances are already handled. Larger crews are usually phased in so the site can absorb them.
BICSI Installer and Technician levels and RCDD, NICET fire alarm levels I through IV, manufacturer certifications on Lenel, Genetec, Software House, Milestone, Crestron, Extron and QSC and OSHA training. All verified with the issuing body before submittal.
Yes, and we process them ahead of mobilization rather than after. Data center, healthcare, government and industrial sites all have their own access requirements, and a technician who cannot get through the gate on day one costs you the schedule.
Yes. Acceptance testing with an authority having jurisdiction is a specific skill and usually calls for a NICET Level III or IV technician. We confirm both the credential and whether the candidate has personally run an acceptance test, which are not the same thing.
Yes, and it is one of our busiest areas. High-density white space cabling, fiber trunk installation, MDF and IDF build-out and the documentation standards a colocation or hyperscale operator audits against.
Low voltage is installation and systems trades: cable plant, life safety, security and AV. Building automation is controls engineering and programming for HVAC and building systems. Some technicians cross over, but the searches are different and we run them separately.
Yes, and travel work is common in this trade. We confirm rotation, per diem and travel expectations with every candidate before submittal, because that is where these placements most often fall apart.
Yes, and we usually recommend hiring the estimator and project manager before any field staff, so the division can bid work it is actually able to deliver. Working foremen come next to set field standards, then technicians.
We recruit nationally across the United States, with active low voltage placements in 39 states, including traveling crews for data center and industrial programs.
